Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake an inception meeting with the project team and national partners to review the tasks, and agree on methodology and milestone timelines as required by this TOR. The consultant shall provide an inception report and detailed workplan with timelines for the successful completion of all projects assigned.
  • Undertake physical onsite assessments and present detailed technical designs, specifications, drawings, technical evaluation criteria and Bill of Quantities for the Supply and Installation of the forgoing infrastructure projects. In this respect the consultant shall provide in the required template the following documents:
  • An Assessment/Mission report for each project
  • Terms of Reference for each project
  • Unpriced BOQs for each project
  • Priced BOQs for each project (in USD)
  • Technical Evaluation criteria for each project
  • Support the successful technical evaluation and procurement of designed projects including by ensuring timely responses to requests from technical and procurement colleagues and revision of documents where required.
  • Facilitate commencement / stakeholder engagements between the contractors and national partners prior to, and during the implementation of the infrastructure projects.
  • Continuous engagement of beneficiary institutions and contractors to ensure seamless implementation of assigned projects.
  • Support structural site inspections and assessments and provide and oversight corrective actions where necessary.
  • Coordinate with technical experts such as engineers, and ICT experts providing additional input including on ICT installations to assigned projects.
  • Provide weekly reports to the relevant UNODC staff on the progress of construction activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • An advanced university degree in Civil Engineering, Infrastructure, Project Management, Management or a related field is required (Master’s or equivalent).
  • A first level university degree is required in Civil Engineering or similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in international civil engineering design and infrastructure project management is required.
  • Work experience in the United Nations system on construction or related infrastructure projects is desirable.
  • Experience working with versatile construction materials and designs e.g. for permanent and moveable structures, incorporating traditional, modern and modular designs is required.
  • Experience in working with Kenyan justice sector actors in desirable.
  • Experience in working in Kenya and the East African Region is desirable.
Languages:
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of other United Nations Secretariat languages is an advantage.
