Job Description

Scope of Work:

  • Capacity needs assessment: Lead, on the ground, in close consultation with the Director of Climate Change and the Project Manager, a rapid survey of capacity needs of her team and relevant inter-ministerial committees.
  • Article 6/ carbon markets & Readiness and Needs Assessment (RNA):
  • Identify and collect relevant documents (existing draft Article 6 strategy, latest draft of NDC 2.0, and all relevant climate/ carbon/ national planning documents) that will serve as inputs to the preparation of the Article 6 strategy and share them with the international firm in charge of the preparation of the strategy and RNA.
  • Coordinate MOECCF inputs and facilitate their integration in the draft(s) prepared by the international firm (to be hired separately) and the Project Manager.
  • Undertake consultations with relevant stakeholders and additional research to ensure a strong contextual understanding of Kenay’s engagement in international carbon markets to help guide MOECCF and the project team.
  • Participate in weekly meetings, review drafts, and collect additional inputs from relevant stakeholde.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in climate change, environmental policy, development policy, or another closely related field. Bachelor’s degrees with two additional years of work experience can also be considered.
  • Between 5-8 years of direct work experience in national climate/ environmental policy in Kenya. Prior experience providing technical inputs and/or drafting national climate policy documents in Kenya is required.
  • Extensive experience in working closely with the Government of Kenya – MOECCF preferably – on carbon markets is desirable.
  • Clear understanding of Kenya’s legal system and regulations is required.
  • Experience working as a staff or consultant for international organizations is desirable.
